Abstract

The bank's ability to manage risk, maintain high earnings, and serve its clients is demonstrated by its consistent and effective performance. Due to the critical role of bank performance in economic growth, there is significant discussion among academic researchers, policymakers, and banking institutions regarding this area of study. Therefore, the objective of this analysis is to investigate the current state of research on bank performance. This study is a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of bank performance publications, specifically the publication trends of 14,229 documents on bank performance between 2000 and 2026 in the subject areas of business, management, economics, and finance. While acknowledging the trends of bank performance publications, this study aims to examine the most active contributors, such as authors, countries and organizations, to the bank performance research landscape and to explore the major clusters in the bank performance research. Scopus is the primary database utilized in this research due to its outstanding collection of literature. Subsequently, VOSviewer software is used to generate scientific maps. The findings of this investigation indicate that the transition from the conventional bank performance model to the contemporary era is currently in progress. The new era reveals that banks can improve performance by rapidly adopting technology, such as FinTech and artificial intelligence (AI), which is currently dominating many sectors, and by contributing to the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) sectors. However, bank performance is not solely measured by profitability indicators like ROA and ROE. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the bank performance research landscape to the financial industry and banks, with the objective of fostering a robust ecosystem that ensures stable bank performance.
